How to tell which shipping protection app a store uses
Last updated October 29, 2026
Look at the protection line in the cart or at checkout, before you pay: the fee usually carries the app's name, such as “Route Package Protection” or Seel's “Worry-Free Purchase”. If it doesn't, the store's help page about protection and the link it gives for filing claims name the app. To check many stores at once, or a store's country sites, paste them into the CheckoutMap checker.
What a shopper sees
Order protection apps (shipping protection, return coverage and extended warranty) all have to tell the shopper what they're paying for, so the app's name tends to show up in the same few places. You can check each of them by hand.
- The protection line or toggle in the cart. Many stores add a checkbox or switch under the cart total, with a short description such as “protect your order against loss, theft or damage”. The name next to it is usually the app's.
- The fee at checkout. Continue to checkout and stop before paying. In the order summary, the protection fee is listed as its own line, for example “Route Package Protection”. Some apps only show up here and not in the cart (see the limits below).
- The store's help or FAQ pages. Stores that charge for protection usually explain it on a page of their own. Search the help center or the footer links for “protection”, “shipping protection” or “package protection”. Typical titles are “Order Protection” for OrderProtection.com or “Redo: Return Shipping + Package Protection” (example store page).
- Where claims are filed. With most of these apps the shopper files a lost or damaged package claim with the app, not with the store, so the help page links to the app's claim portal. OrderProtection.com claims go through claim.orderprotection.com (its FAQ); Route's package protection policy has shoppers file with Route.
- Order emails. If you have ordered from the store, the order confirmation lists the protection fee as its own line under the same name as at checkout. Some apps, such as Route, also offer the shopper order tracking.
The common apps and how they show up
How each app usually presents itself to shoppers, from its own documentation and listings, and the kind of coverage it sells. Each name links to the stores where we found it.
| App | Covers | What shoppers usually see |
|---|---|---|
| Route | Shipping protection | An optional fee named “Route Package Protection” in the cart or at checkout. Covers packages lost, stolen or damaged in transit, not delays; claims are filed with Route. Route also offers order tracking. Source |
| Seel | Return coverage Shipping protection | An option at checkout called “Worry-Free Purchase”, which lets shoppers return an order they changed their mind about and covers packages lost or damaged in shipping. Source |
| Redo | Return coverage Shipping protection | Paid coverage at checkout that makes return shipping or exchanges free, plus package protection. Stores often explain it on a page titled “Redo: Return Shipping + Package Protection”, and Redo often runs the store's returns portal too. Source |
| ShipInsure | Shipping protection | Order protection at checkout for packages that are lost, stolen or damaged, with ShipInsure handling the claims for the store. Source |
| Navidium | Shipping protection | A shipping protection fee that goes to the store, which then handles lost, stolen or damaged orders itself, so the claim usually goes to the store rather than a third party. Source |
| OrderProtection.com | Shipping protection | Optional order protection at checkout, often explained on a store help page called “Order Protection”. Claims go through claim.orderprotection.com and are settled with a refund, a reshipment or store credit. Source |
CheckoutMap also recognizes Extend, Corso, Narvar Shield, Onward, ShipAid, XCover, InsureShip, Clyde, Mulberry, SureBright and EcoCart; see all apps. A store can run more than one: on October 29, 2026 we found Route, ShipInsure and EcoCart together on cotopaxi.com.
Where checking by hand falls short
Apps that only appear at checkout
Some apps add nothing to the home page or the cart and only show their line once you're on the checkout page. In our October 29, 2026 checks we only saw OrderProtection.com at checkout on silksilky.com, and Seel only at checkout on juicycouture.com (Seel stores). Looking at the cart alone would have missed both.
Country sites that differ
A store with several country sites can run a different app, or none, on each. silksilky.com runs OrderProtection.com on its main site and on 4 of its 13 country sites (Australia, Canada, Germany, the UK), while 7 others, mostly in Europe, run Xcotton Guard and 2 showed no protection app. allbirds.com runs Redo on its main site and its UK site, but 20 of its 27 country sites showed no protection app (6 couldn't be checked). Checking only the site you happen to land on can give the wrong answer for another country.
Apps that appear only after entering an address
Some checkouts only add the protection line, or work out its price, after you enter a shipping address or log in. You won't see it until you have filled in those steps, and a quick look at the first checkout screen can come up empty. Stores also add and remove apps over time, so any check is a snapshot of the day you looked.
Checking many stores at once
Going through carts, checkouts and help pages takes a few minutes per store, which adds up if you're a sales or partnerships team at a protection app mapping who runs a competitor, an agency auditing clients, or a merchant comparing what similar stores offer. CheckoutMap does it in one go: paste a list of store addresses and it reads each store's public pages, including the cart and checkout, without placing an order. For each store you get the app, what it covers (shipping protection, return coverage or extended warranty), where it was found, and optionally the app on each country site.
To see results we have already checked, browse stores by app (for example stores using Route or stores using OrderProtection.com) or stores by country site.
Questions
How can I tell which shipping protection app a store uses?
Look at the protection line in the cart or at checkout, before you pay: it usually carries the app's name, such as Route Package Protection or Seel's Worry-Free Purchase. The store's help pages and the link it gives for claims, such as claim.orderprotection.com, name the app too. To check many stores at once, paste them into the CheckoutMap checker.
What is the shipping protection fee at checkout?
An optional charge added by an order protection app or by the store itself. If you pay it, a lost, stolen or damaged package is replaced or refunded through the app's claim process; some apps also cover returns. Each store sets the amount, and you can leave it off.
How do I find out if a store uses Route, Seel or OrderProtection.com?
Route usually shows up as a line called Route Package Protection, Seel as Worry-Free Purchase, and OrderProtection.com as Order Protection with claims at claim.orderprotection.com. Some stores only show the app at checkout or only on some country sites, so check the checkout and the country site you care about, or use the CheckoutMap checker.
CheckoutMap is not affiliated with any of the apps or stores named here. Vendor details come from each vendor's own documentation and listings, linked above; store results are from our own checks on October 29, 2026. Spotted an error? Email support@checkoutmap.com.
